RULES OF THE GAME - 2023-24

The following rules have been designed to ensure fair play for all participants. Each player is expected to understand these rules prior to their participation. Any questions concerning these rules should be directed to the Board. 

Any necessary revisions of these rules will be made by the SJYSA Board and will become effective immediately.

Sportsmanship: Sportsmanship is to always prevail. 
Coaches will be held responsible for the conduct of themselves, their players, players’ parents, and spectators. 
Outfits: Please bring a light (white or light gray) or dark shirt (black or dark blue) but pennies are available. No jewelry will be allowed, including earrings of any type, rope necklaces and bracelets. The only exception is medical bracelets. 
                                                                Player equipment: All players must wear shin guards.

Age Group Rules:
U6 Boys/ Girls (Little Kickers) – will be working thru fun games and skills training to build everyone’s abilities.
U9 Boys  

6v6 / 5+goalies.  Substitution at any time, responsibility of the teams to get players on and off.  Throw ins are in affect.  Ball must be on the offensive side of the field to score.  Offsides in affect.  Time is run by the overall buzzer.   U8 goals. Referees (Rosters of 10 total)

U9 Girls

4v4 / no goalies.  Substitution at any time, responsibility of the teams to get players on and off.  Throw in are in affect.  Balls stuck behind the goal will be done as goal kicks.  Ball must be on the offensive side of the field to score.  There are no offsides, but coaches should not be allowed to camp players in front of the goal.  Time is run by the overall buzzer.   U6 goals. Referees (Rosters of 8 total)

U10 Girls – kids moved up or down based on new groupings

U12 Boys

7v7 / 6+goalies.  Goalies will only throw the ball – not past half.  Substitution at any time, responsibility of team to get players on and off.  Ball must be on the offensive side of the field to score.  Corner kicks are in affect.  No throw ins – all Kicks ins.  Offsides are in affect. Time is run by the overall buzzer.   U8 goals. Referees. (Rosters of 10 total)

U15/JV Boys/Girls

Depends on the numbers - 5v5 or 7V7 including goalies.  Goalies will only throw the ball – not past half. 
substitution at any time, responsibility of team to get players on and off.  No throw ins – all Kicks ins.
Corner kicks are in affect.  Ball needs to be on the offensive side of the field to score.  Offsides are in affect. 
Time is run by the overall buzzer.   U8 goals. Referees. 

High School Boys/Girls

7v7 including goalies.  Goalies will only throw the ball – not past half. 
Substitution at any time, responsibility of team to get players on and off.  No throw ins – all Kicks ins. 
Corner kicks are in affect.  Ball must be on the offensive side of the field to score. Offsides are in affect. 
Time is run by the overall buzzer – arrive early and be ready to play.   U8 goals.  Referees.

Player Ejection (Red Card): Officials and referees have the right to eject a player or coach from the game for continual disobedience or because of an incident that warrants sending off. The team may then continue with their remaining players, however, if the player receiving the red card was on the field of play, the team must complete the entire game a player short. The player receiving the red card will automatically be suspended for their next game (no exceptions). Players or coaches that are red carded must leave the immediate playing area, including the fan and team areas. If the player delays or refuses to leave, the game will be forfeited in favor of opposing team (regardless of the score at the time of the incident).  To play again the player must be approved by the Board.
