Complex Rules | Rules of Play

COMPLEX RULES 

  • Most games are played on Saturday, but rainouts may require some games to be played during the week.
  • For safety reasons, no climbing on the goals, trees, or construction areas.
  • No jewelry of any kind may be worn during games.
  • Shin guards and cleats are required to be worn by all players.
  • Please respect the referees. They will call the game as they see it from their position on the field. Set an example for the players that what the referee says is final, regardless of what you may have seen from your viewpoint.
  • Parents must sit on the opposite side of the field from team players.
  • Parents are not allowed on the field during the game regardless of injuries unless the referee states otherwise. Make sure your "cheerleading" is supportive and not negative in any fashion.
  • NO DOGS ARE ALLOWED ON THE FIELDS AT ANY TIME.

RULES OF PLAY

Rule I. THE FIELD OF PLAY

The size of the field, goal area, and penalty area shall be modified for each age group.
U-6 and U-8 divisions will not have a penalty area. The goal sizes will be vary based on field size.

Rule II. THE BALL

U-6 players will use a size 3 ball
U-8 players will use a size 4 ball
U-10 players will use a size 4 ball
U-12 players will use a size 4 ball
U-15 & up players will use a size 5 ball

Rule III. NUMBER OF PLAYERS

SJYSA will play with a reduced number of players in all age groups.
  • Players per age division as follows:
    U-6 - 4v4
    U-8 - 5v5
    U-10 - 6v6
    U-12 - 7v7
    U-15 starting at 7v7
 
  • There will be unlimited substitutions at the times noted:

**   Player will exit at the mid line
**   
Prior to a throw-in or corner kick by the team in possession
**   Prior to a goal kick by either team
**   After a goal by either team
**   During an injury - if the injured player is replaced, the opposing team may substitute, if desired
**   At half-time
**   At quarters (for U-6 and U-8 age divisions)

Sportsmanship addendum: U8 and up age groups will abide by the following rules for games:
 
  • U-8: If one team gains a 5 goal lead, the team down will add one player to the field of play.  If the lead is 6 goals, the team down will add a second player.  The maximum amount of players on the field will be 7 players for any one team. Players do not come off the field until the goal differential is 3.
  • U-10 and U-12: If one team gains a 5 goal lead, the team down will add one player to the field of play.  If the lead is 6 goals, the team down will add a second player.  The maximum amount of players on the filed will be 8 players for any one team. Players do not come off the field until the goal differential is 3.

Rule IV. PLAYERS' EQUIPMENT

Shin guards and cleats are mandatory.
Socks must be OVER the shin guards.
No jewelry of any kind will be worn (exceptions are made for medical alert bracelets or necklaces)

Rule V. DURATION OF THE GAME

  (u6)2012/13: 4 - 10 MINUTE QUARTERS                                            (u8)2010/11: 4 - 12 MINUTE QUARTERS

  (u10)2008/09: 2 - 20 MINUTE HALVES                                                   (u12)2006/07: 2 - 25 MINUTES HALVES

  (u15)2002/3/4/5:  2 - 30 MINUTE HALVES                             

                                                                Rainouts are on Sunday Afternoon if the field schedule permits
Rule VI. OFF-SIDES

  • There are no off-sides for U-6 and U-8 divisions, but coaches should not be allowed to camp players in front of the goal.
  • For age groups U-10 and older, off-sides shall be in effect.

Rule VII. FOULS AND MISCONDUCT

U-6 and U-8 divisions: Any major foul committed in the penalty area will be whistled and an indirect free kick awarded. There are no direct kicks in U-6 and U-8.

Rule VIII. FIELD RULES
